Faux Rusty Metal Canvas-Step Out Tutorial

If you haven’t had a chance to work with Tattered Angels Naturally Aged Paint kits, you’re missing out! These kits were designed to take on the faux finish of natural elements such as wood, metals, architectural finishes and more. This layout uses the rusty metal kit as a way to draw attention to the focal point of the layout, that beautiful rusty truck!

Step Out Tutorial Below:

Materials Needed:  1. rusty metal paint system; 2. gesso; 3. heat tool; 4. chipboard; 5. papers; 6. tags; 7. die cuts; 8. brads; 9. photo
1. Prep your Canvas with Gesso.  I am using a 12x12 canvas.

2. Place your photo down and your paper layers; draw a line around your papers so you know just where to place your chipboard, then prime your chipboard with the gesso and adhere to the canvas

3. I am using Fabscraps metal hinges on the left side of the canvas and i primed these a bit too.

4. I love mini beads and I cannot get enough of them, so i added rootbeer beads to the canvas just to add more texture to the project.  If you wish to change the colour of the beads you will need to gesso these too :D

5. The paint systems have enclosed instructions on the inside of the packaging, i like to experiment on a small piece of canavs before hand to know how the mists and glazes will react to one another on a larger surface.

as you can see that metal texture looks pretty fantastic. and these photos do not do it justice, seriously!
6. Heat set your surface with a heat tool and you can choose your papers and other embellishments you wish to use to add layers and dimension.

close up detail of the layers, and colour.

Be sure to check out some of the 4 step paint systems from Tattered Angels, they are awesome to work with.
