Emboss Resist Technique-Heartfelt Creations

Happy Friday Everyone. I am so thrilled to be here sharing a favorite technique i like to use on the larger Heartfelt Creations background stamps.

The image i am working with is part of the Butterfly Medley Collection and the image is HCPC-3655 Dream in Beauty Cling Stamp Set. Here is what we will be creating today.

close up look at the emboss resist

Here are the supplies you will need to get started.

Heartfelt Creations Products
HCDP1-251 Butterfly Medley Paper Collection
HCD1- 758 Botanical Wings Die
HCPC-3655 Dream In Beauty Cling Stamp Set
1259723 Art Institute (Dries Clear)
159223 Paper Blossom Molding Mat
459222 Paper Blossom Tool Kit

Other Materials Needed:
Self Healing Mat & Kraft Knife; Heat Tool; Distress Inks: Wild Honey and Peacock Feathers ( you can use what ever colours you prefer for this technique; two blending tools with foam - one for each colour; Tattered Angels Trunk Bay Glimmer Mist; A2 Divine Eloquence Die; Versa Mark Ink Pad; White Embossing Powder; Want2Scrap White Pearl Bling; Seam Binding; Trinket Pin; Ranger craft Mat; May Arts Gold Thread; Canson Water Colour Paper; white cardstock;

1. To begin, lets stamp the Dream In Beauty Image out twice onto Canson water colour paper with versa mark ink, sprinkle white embossing powder

2. Now Heat Set those images

3. Lets grab the Wild Honey Distress Ink and the Peacock Feathers distress Ink along with the Blending tools

4. Dab the blending tool into the wild honey and begin applying pressure to the toll starting just slightly off the card image and blend onto the paper. The white embossing will "Resist" the Distress Ink and the white will shine through!

5. When you feel you have dded enough wild honey, switch blending tools and add some Peacock Feathers.  You can see the "Resist" technique beginning to take shape here

6.  Finish with Wild Honey, and now you can see the full embossed image, looks pretty doesnt it?

7. Taking a mini mist or bottle sprayer,  lightly spritz the surface of the card, then spray some water into the palm of your hand and drop it  onto the card to create larger droplets.

8.  Let the water soak in for a few seconds. You can use a paper towel to blot off excess at this point

9. I like to turn the image over and just heat set a bit from the back

10. When dry, place the A2 Divine Eloquence die on top of the image, being that Canson water paper is a bit heavier, i am using a Vagabond and needed a light shim.

11.   Here it is all cut out, if you want to leave it like this you can, otherwise you can add a bit more colour to the edges if you like. Set this aside for now while we work on the second image.

12. Take the second image and we will only colour the butterfly on this image, begin with wild honey, then add some Peacock Feathers

13. Using the Bontanical Wings die, set the large butterfly die on top of the second image and cut out

14. Using stylus and molding mat, flip Butterfly Over and mold pout aside for now.

15. taking a Piece of white cardstock, cut out the A2 Divine Eloquence die one more time, this time leave the die in place.

16. Taking your kraft knife, be sure you are on a self healing mat and cut out the center of the die, be careful around the corners.

here is what it looks like with the center of it cut out. its very delicate now so be careful :D

17. Taking the Art Institute Dries Clear adhere to back of die cut and attach to card front making sure you are lining it up perfectly

we are almost done.

18. Apply Art Institute to the cut out molded Butterfly back center and adhere to top of image, then add Want2Scrap Pearls.

19. Cut a 4.5 x 11.5 from white cardstock, then cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" from a paper in the Butterfly Medley Collection, ink edges with Peacock feathers

20. Attach Butterfly Panel to this. Take a piece of seam binding in white, mist a bit with water, then mist with Trunk Bay Glimmer Mist

21 Then Heat Set the seam binding to dry, krinkle it in your hands and the heat will krinkle it more, do not get the heat tool too close as you can burn the seam binding really easily.

22. When the seam binding is dry, lay it down on the card base, and attach the card front to top

23. Tie seam Binding in a bow, then tie gold thread around the center of the bow in another bow and attach the trinket pin in the knot.

And there it is.   The one of the left is the original card i designed, the one on the right is the card i did for the tutorial

I hope i have inspired you to get those Distress Inks and Embossing Powder out to create this technique on your own.  This can be done with any of the Cling sets in the Heartfelt Creations collections.

Until Next Time ! Happy Inking!
